Stinking thinking and how to OVERCOME it

I think it was the late Zig Ziglar who coined the phrase “Stinking Thinking.” Here’s what he actually said…

Every day we all need a checkup from the neck up, to avoid stinkin’ thinkin’ and hardening of the attitudes.

For me, the phrase is HUGELY descriptive of a pattern I fall into from time to time. If you are a human being, I would bet money it’s the same for you.

Stinking thinking is when we begin to believe or fixate on things that are not true.

Yes, I’m one of those people who believes in absolute truth. If you aren’t a person who believes in absolute truth… that’s fine for you (a little tongue in cheek, there). here’s an experiment for you:

  • Go do a swan dive off your roof
  • Then come talk to me.
  • Then we’ll see what you think about the absolute truth of gravity.

OK, enough fun… back to stinking thinking…

You might be stuck in a pattern of believing things that are not true about:

  • Yourself
  • Your circumstances
  • Your future
  • Your abilities
  • Your possibilities
  • Etc., etc., etc.

I’ve found there’s no limit to the ways I can come up with to think wrongly.

I’ve been thinking about thinking a lot lately.

I think that the way we think and what we think about is one of the most powerful influences in our lives.

If I’m right… here’s how it plays out…

WHAT you think about and HOW you think about it, could be one of your greatest resources OR one of your greatest limitations.
